History - As A Career

Historians work mostly in academics at universities, using their expertise in research to discover new facts about the past.Gather historical data from various sources, including archives, books, and artifacts,analyze and interpret historical information all these are the main work of a historian.

 

Basic requirements :

After completing 12th,students need to be clear about how to become a Historian in India.

Post your 10th grade, you would have to choose humanities/arts if you want to pursue history as a subject. However, there are very few colleges that offer history as a subject in 11th and 12th grade. Though students in science stream can switch to history in graduation level but the same cannot be said for commerce stream at 12th.

What credentials do I require to become a historian? A bachelor's degree in history is necessary to work as a historian. The majority of historians then pursue a master's or doctoral degree, during which time they conduct research and create a thesis in a field of study of their choice.

Students can pursue History in the form of various degrees and courses like- BA History, BA History (Hons), MA History, B. History, M.Phil History, PhD History and many others. Some colleges may even conduct personal interview rounds before the final admission to the students. 

Research Intern: works under a senior Historian or professor to start learning technicalities and to obtain knowledge of this field. The daily task of interns includes gathering information as required, evaluating and studying the information gathered, and eventually coming up with solutions or a final approach to the issue.

Assistant professors : Here one works in universities or colleges where they teach and conduct research. Assistant Professors are teachers and trainers who train students.

Professors -operate for the College and are responsible for carrying out reliable research on the different subject areas relevant to the field. In comparison to teaching, the professor focuses more on research. Professor works mainly at universities and other post-secondary and educational universities in most countries.
